I regularly meet Pat on my trips to Dublin. We stop for a chat as he sells his books on Westmoreland Street, exchanging stories of life, love and the streets. We trade insights, listen to each other and, inevitably, part company in a lighter mood.

This website is a law onto itself, much like Pat. It has not been updated a lot recently, but I wanted to add two new bits of news to keep those of you who cannot get the news from the horses mouth, up to date.

Since the last update, Pat has published another collection of poems which defy any attempt to classify, define or describe them. As Pat says on the back cover: "My poems do not need academics or study notes or lectures or any of the other self-serving, ego-massaging stuff which diminishes beauty and stifles wonder. All my poems need is me. All my poems need is you. It is as simple and beautiful as that."

The collection is titled: "can I get in the bath?"

thePoetThe second bit of news is that Pat wanted me to let you know about Vivienne Baillie. Vivienne has written a beautiful, evocative book titled: "The Poet" You can buy the book from Pat, on the streets of Dublin, or by clicking here.

That's it for now - who knows when these pages will be updated again, but I promise to keep you as up to date as I can.

Love and light,

James

Book coverMY NEW BOOK!!
I am hugely delighted with it. I’MOUTHERE.
That’s the way the title looks on the cover.
Myself and Steve went down together to the shores of Malahide estuary on a bitterly cold Saturday in December last and what followed was for me, the most emotionally enriching time I have ever spent in front of a camera. Probably because the pictures were happening not far from the place where a long time ago Seán O’Neill photographed the two little boys who sit smiling side by side on the cover of ONCE UPON A ‘HIDE. Me and my older brother Michael when we were little and lived down The Green in the small rented house where my mother and father first set up home together. And here I was years later, and the little boy safe inside me.

Certainly because the pictures were being taken by Steve who more than anyone has kept the Willow miracle alive with his creative talent, generous spirit and boundless friendship.

God, I was perched on top of a sandhill with the sea roaring behind me and a wind blowing me over sideways on my chair and Steve was down below on the sand with his camera and I have seldom felt happier.

A magical winter Saturday that I will never forget.

We walked back to Malahide village together, Steve wheeling his bike,
the pair of us knowing that something very special indeed had just happened.

Pat @ bewleys
Well, I ventured out onto the streets of Dublin three weeks later with the book and the response has been phenomenal.

Dessie Kenny got right behind me, on-line in Galway the way that he always does.

My cousin Niamh has got the patience of a saint because today is
the 25th of February 2006 and I am only just now getting down to sending all of this news down to James and asking him to post it on
the web-site. Thank you Niamh for representing me so proudly and sorry for taking so long about putting out the news about the
new book.

Oh and something just as exciting. I have been able to reprint my 1996 collection – IF YOU DON’T TELL ANYBODY I WON’T So that too is now available again after a lonely absence.

My new collection – I’MOUTHERE is huge…the same size as DO LÁMH I MO BHRÍSTÍ…the price is 18 Euros.

IF YOU DON’T TELL ANYBODY I WON’T is the same size as How Was It For You Doctor?....the price is 10 Euros.

Thank you again to all of the energising people who write to me, who stop on the street wherever I happen to be selling, who buy my books, who apologise for being broke but still make the time to have a bit of craic, who suddenly appear with hot coffees and Bounty bars, who mind the books while I nip around the corner to the nearest pub for a wee-wee, who buy my books on-line from Dessie Kenny in Galway, who write the most happy E-mails to Niamh and buy my books from her, who seem to know the days when I’m feeling negative or scared about going down town and time their letters to plop through my letter-box at such times and get me going again.
And thank you to the miracle veterinary people Pat, Ciarán, Lorenza and Margaret for bringing Hoot back from the brink, I think he was well over it at the time but they saved his life, returned him to me as Hooty as ever, he now walks with a wobble and his head is permanently on one side but he’s still the MD and the CEO and everything else like that.

This website would not exist without James. When I think of it, Willow Publications(Incorporating Hoot Records) would not have a hope in hell without every single one of you. You keep my dreams alive! Go raibh míle míle maith ag gach éinne go deo!

*NEW* ONLINE SALES

From time to time I would be thinking to myself – “Wouldn’t it be lovely to sell my books on-line.” And that would be the end of it. Off I’d go onto the streets of Dublin with my trolley-load of books and sell them there because for me, that’s where the craic is. I’d go mad if I was at home making parcels and putting books into boxes.

From time to time I would be thinking to myself – “Maybe some day, the right person will come along and my books will be in good hands and I will just know.”

Well now I am really excited because she has…my cousin Niamh(Ingoldsby) is the new member of Willow Publications, she is looking after on-line orders for my books and CDs and I cannot think of anyone I would rather have doing it.
